I loved the idea of combining a radio, clock, and sound generator in one unit. The projector was an added bonus. The problem? This thing would be a better night light than a clock. Even on the dim setting, it was possible to make shadow puppets on the ceiling. Seriously, if you are a light sleeper looking for a sound generator, this will do more harm than good. The sounds are mediocre and the buttons are almost impossible to find in the dark.

I purchased the HoMedics SS-4000 Sound Spa Clasic Delux Clock Radio and Sound Machine (with Time Projection) as a gift for my wife this past Christmas. She was interested in the projection and sound machine functions. Thus far, the device has performed well. The AM/FM radio gets good reception where others have failed, so we are happy in that respect. The sound effects are pleasant and definitely more soothing to wake up to in the morning. The projection function seems to be working fine, but fortunately there is an on/off button available because my wife finds it a bit distracting. The only problem I've seen thus far is that there is no "safety" on the time setting button so it can be activated if you accidentally hit it when trying to snooze or turn off the alarm. So far it hasn't been a problem. More about the time projector. It swivels approximately 110 degrees on one axis (front to back) so you can set it to project straight up to the ceiling or behind the clock on the wall (but not across the room on the far ceiling or opposing wall). The projector lens rotates so it will allow you to position the time display in the correct orientation to your viewing angle. The lens can also be focused by turning the lens clockwise or counterclockwise. The brightness of the time display is adjustable (low and high setting).

When I first received the machine I loved it. It was easy to set and understand how to use. After the 1st couple of months the sound machine part would make this awful loud noise when it was playing. I would be in a dead sleep and this loud noise would wake me up. It was horrible. I don't know if it was interference from something else or what-it was the middle of the night. I don't recommend this product if you are getting it strictly for the sound spa.

This product has some great options for the price. The time projection is helpful for seeing the clock without having to roll over in bed, the buzz alarm is nice for mornings when I must be up and out of bed very early, and for all other mornings the sound machine alarm option is a much more pleasant way to start the day. The sound quality of the is not great, but that would be my only complaint.

My wife and I have been looking for an alarm clock that does not sound horrible, has a nice and bright display and the time projection feature. This product has everything that we wanted! We now wake up to the beautiful sound of birds chirping or whatever else we chose from the available options and it is easy to see time at night just by looking up onto the ceiling. Love the large snooze button and the fall asleep to natural sounds feature. Also the fact that the alarm can be turned off with an obvious button right on top of the device is exactly what we wanted - no more searching for an uncomfortable switch somewhere in the back of the unit like it was with our previous alarm clock. The projection feature seemed a bit too bright at first but we got used to it in about two nights and now we even like it - it acts as a night light.
Overall it's a wonderful product at a great price.
