I needed a portable battery powered alarm clock that has an illuminated dial. Chosing this clock was a big mistake. It's time can only be illuminated by pressing one of several confusing un-labeled buttons TWICE, so you can't just see the time in a dark room. The alarm mechanism has mal-functioned on several occasions, usually at the worst time. The "nature sounds" are actually cheap sounding and annoying. The badly translated directions are worthless. This is the perfect gift for someone you detest.

I got this clock because the alarm sounds are called chimes, cathedral bells, and something else I can't recall, but it turns out they are all very annoying. I really wanted a Zen clock that wakes you up with an actual chime but couldn't afford it. I thought this might be a nice replacement. I've been very disappointed. As others mentioned, the nature sounds are way too loud and can't be adjusted. I haven't used that feature since the first week I bought it. I'm now in the market for a new clock. The alarm sounds are driving me crazy!

 "missing one important feature" 2003-01-09
By LeAnne Fitch (Riverside, CA USA)
so far, I love my clock....except one thing. There is no volume control available for the nature sounds. If you don't want to be blasted by the sound of pounding waves, excited birds or a babbling brook, you have to put the clock on the other side of the room and cannot have it close to your head. I would prefer the volumn to be lower and adjustable. Other than that, it has great features for the cost......

 "Way too basic" 2002-12-18
By C. Zaug (Livermore, CA United States)
I bought this for my child to sleep to the nature sounds. After buying it, I found you can only play the nature sounds in the "sleep" mode and that they will only play for a maximum of 59 minutes, and then it shuts off! Why can't it just also have an "on" and "off" button? Also, there is no volume control for the sounds, and most seem pretty loud, but "ocean" is the softest. Further, the sounds repeat after a very short time, about 3 seconds, so the pattern is very obvious and could get annoying. I'd say to look for a better product with more features.

"no quality assurance check on this clock" 2002-10-31
By Kean Chiok (san francisco, ca)
I bought this clock and tried it for 2 nights. However, I was awaken by the clock 1 hour ahead of actual time. I realised later that the manufacturer has messed up on the program in this clock. Instead of 60 seconds per minute, this alarm clock was internally set at 50 seconds per minute...

This is an excellent clock for many ages. For the older set, the numbers are large and easy to read; choose from 3 alarms the one that is easiest to hear. For the very young, the nature sounds are a perfect soother to put a child to sleep. And for the middle aged couple who has trouble getting up; it's a whole new way to wake up smiling!. Keeps everyone happy. Even the dog likes the nature sounds!

"Versitle and easy to use" 2010-01-16
By Roberto (FORT WORTH, TEXAS, US)
I searched the world over for a unit that does all the things this one does. It hits all the right buttons and it is user friendly. You have choices of nature sounds, radio, beeper, and CD's in any combination, in multiple volumes for alarms, sleep sounds, or cat naps. An amazingly versitile unit. It does so many different things so well and in various combinations. I have not seen another single unit that can match it at any price.

 "Sad experience" 2010-01-09
By Al (USA)
I looked far and wide for a clock radio with sounds for falling asleep and CD player. Was excited that this was the one. Was a Christmas gift for my wife. Sadly this was a major disappointment. The sound from the speakers on FM stations was defective - scratchy, as if speakers had been "blown through" with high intensity music. It was not an issue of FM reception. Initially, CD player was working, but exhibited same problem with sound quality from speakers. Then it stopped working altogether. I had to return item to the 3rd part seller (at my expense!). Although I asked for replacement, they simply gave me credit through Amazon. I guess they also don't have confidence in the product. The radio has a nice concept and design. Too bad quality control is not there. I would suggest don't bother with this product. I had seen another bad review but decided to risk it anyway. No dice.

 "nice while it lasted" 2009-11-25
By C. Masteller (Macedonia, Ohio)
We purchased this for my daughter for her birthday because she likes to fall asleep to her relaxation music or to lullabies. It was never moved from her dresser or misused. We really liked everything about it and were happy while it lasted. It is now a year and a half later and the CD part has stopped working. Since we paid $70 for it when it was new, I'm having a hard time going out and looking for a new one right now after such a short time. The main reason that this was purchased was for the CD player and the secondary reason was for the alarm clock. I could've gotten a plain alarm clock much cheaper. I'm rating two stars, because it should've lasted a lot longer. I would steer clear of this one because it's just not dependable at all!

 "Junk" 2009-11-05
By Jim (santa monica, ca United States)
I tried to set the alarm, and realized I had to press the alarm 1 button over and over to get it to work, the reverse track button wouldn't function unless you braced the unit with two hands and pushed really hard, and the first CD I played skipped repeatedly, (this CD has never had a problem playing on other units). Don't buy it. Timex is throwing away whatever brand equity they have left marketing this junk.

 "Very Happy Customer" 2009-10-05

Very happy with this purchase. Easy to adjust alarm times. Love that I can have multiple alarms, one with radio, one with buzzer. Can connect Ipod as well as play cds. Would definitely buy again.
