With a fresh battery, after less than 24 hours of use I found that the clock will stop for no reason. If you're looking for a reliable alarm clock, the first requirement is that it is capable of accurately keeping time, so this product is the opposite of what you want.

The quality of this clock is so poor it is almost laughable. Every night is an adventure. Will the clock stop? Will the alarm work? I was surprised when I opened my order and discovered I had received two clocks. Now I know why. You need a back up. The battery doesn't sit snuggly in its case. Fortunately the clock has an annoyingly loud tick, so when it decides to stop i can reach over to my night table and give it a shake.

This clock is advertised as an electric clock, with "Battery Backup". The electrical cord only powers the face illumination. There is no backup. The clock runs on the battery only. When I received this clock the illuminated face worked for less than 1 minute before it failed. It is advertised as "Guaranteed for 5 years", but there is no information about who, or where the company is located. This product has no value.

The numbers on this clock are brightly backlit with eerie blue light but the face and hands are NOT lit at all. That makes it very hard to read the time at night.



Of minor importance, the Elgin clock received was smaller than specified, about 4 1/8 inches by 4 13/16 inches, not 5.8 x 6.2. But it looked exactly like the picture. Maybe better.

If you are looking for a compact or travel alarm clock, this will not be your first choice.

I recently purchased this clock, and unfortunately, it is already falling apart. The stem which you turn to set the alarm and the time is very loose, almost falling out. This is the second time I've purchased an Equity clock (different model) and the other one lasted only a few months before the stems fell out as well. It's not worth the time and expense to return to manufacturer or Amazon, so this purchase was a lose-lose.

I've had a few of these, which attest to their desirability but lack of durability. 2 of the 4 broke after a year or so, but I'm going to get yet another since, while they work, they're great! And they're cheap!



Good points are:

1) Silent!

2) Big convenient snooze button also turns on the light, which with fresh batteries makes a night light in a pinch

3) Easy to read and set

4) Attractive



UPDATE (after finally opening the package):

IT'S NOT SILENT! IT TICKS SOMEWHAT LOUDLY. Major bummer.

It is in all ways identical to the silent ones I've had except that it ticks!

I bought this because I have a hard time seeing the digital clock in my car without leaning forward and squinting. This little clock is the perfect size and the black hands on the white face are very easy to see. The clock comes with adhesive-backed velcro tabs which make it easy to stick on your dash. I withheld one star because you pay almost as much for shipping as for the clock itself.
