 "Nap anyone?" 2009-09-27
By T. Hemp-Hall (USA)
I like using nap timer/alarm clocks because they are not electric. Also, you can set your own snooze time instead of the automatic times set for most alarm clocks. I have had Timex nap timers that are wonderful; however, I can no longer find them anywhere. I ended up seeing the Elgin nap timer and thought that I would give it a try. What I do like about the nap timer function is that when you set the amount of time you want to nap (I also use it when I do laundry) you can push the nap timer function and see how much time is left. What I don't like about it is the tiny "slide control" of the Snooze, Alarm On and Alarm Off. You need a strong fingernail to manuver it and you can forget about manuvering it with your fingertip. The "slide control" to set the alarm time, calendar or lock the times in place is the same, but their function can be set and left alone, for the most part. Another thing that I particularily did not like was that the shipping cost was 43% of the total cost of the product. That is a bit steep.

Talking LCD Alarm Clock w/ Hourly Chime

Buy Cheap Talking LCD Alarm Clock w/ Hourly Chime

Because this little clock has its speaker on the top, it is surprisingly loud. It says the time when you press the large button next to the speaker, or you can set it to announce the time hourly between 8:00 AM and 10:00 PM. A beep-beep, rooster or cuckoo sounds when you set the alarm and you can activate the 10-minute snooze function for a few more "zzz's". The clock measures 4.25" x 3.75" x 1.75" while the numbers are .75" high. It uses 2 "AA" batteries.

 "LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!" 2009-02-22
By Marie S. Williams
Unfortunately, Sony has stopped making this product. The TV function on my first one wouldn't transfer from the CD to TV (locked up and was apparently not repairable???), and I finally found another one on the internet as is the TV that I use most. The radio and CD player still play fine on the first unit. This under-counter TV has an EXCELLENT picture. It is in my kitchen, and I use it daily. No other under-counter unit had good reviews when I bought the first or second Sony. This product needs to be put back on the production line!!!

"After 30 minutes the TV went black and never recovered" 2008-12-29
By T. J. Morrow (Houston, Texas)
After 30 minutes the TV went black and never recovered. Further the provider Sandadeals did not honor a return as they have a no return policy per Amazon. Makes it tough. Sony will only attempt a repair or give a refurbished unit. The downside when a product fails, its better to buy from Best Stores.

 "Good...untill it stops working!" 2007-12-05
By Jason Stacks (Youngsville, LA USA)
Installation was not difficult with the right angle coax connector. We would use this unit for approx. 10 or 15 mins in the morning. We were very pleased with it's performance untill one day we pressed th ON button and nothing happened. No clock, no radio, no CD player, no TV, no power. We have had this thing for 8 months. $200.00 for 8 months of service. That doesn't rate very high in my book.

"Overall very happy with this product" 2007-04-23
By M. Hughes (Charleston, WV United States)
Bought this for space and for listening to music and the news while cooking. Am VERY happy that I did. Space is awesome; it fits my needs for CD/FM/and TV. (If I wanted to watch a big screen, I'd go to the family room anyway). Easy installation in the corner cabinet, no accessory needed. The reason for the 4 stars is that one of the stations does not have sound (haven't figured out what that problem is) and also the AM reception is very poor. Does anyone have any suggestions for this? Finally, wanted to point out that you may be able to find this product for half the cost --as I did at a local TV dealer.

 "Too deep for cabinet" 2007-03-26
By John A. Lefcourte (Reno, NV USA)
I'd had a GE unit that fit well but worked only O.K. when it stopped working I purchased this w/o checking depth. Jiggering it around and drilling through the cabinet frame, the unit still protrudes from under the cabinet and I still had to get a right angle converter AND loosen all the mounting screws and gouge the drywall to get it to fit. That's ridiculous.

"Good, but could be better" 2010-01-27
By Rujith de Silva (Boston MA, USA)
Pros: Projection is very good, focusable, and can be turned (didn't measure

the actual angle covered). It's just perfect for the night: large, red

numbers, easily visible, but not so bright as to disturb.

Lots of features: barometer, weather forecast, min/max temperature for both

outside and inside, radio, alarm, settable to both 24-hour and Celsius.

Cons: The main display projection has three levels: off, too bright, and

extremely bright. "Too bright" means bright enough for shadows at night!

So I have it set to off. The convenient snooze button on top switches the

display on, but only briefly, too briefly. It's long enough to see the

main details, but too short if you want to do something, such as change the

alarm settings. It would be nice if the snooze activated the display light

for (say) 15 seconds.

The connection to the outside remote thermometer unit is iffy. I think the

remote transmits once a minute or so, and the main unit tries to

synchronize with it to listen once a minute. But the two get out of sync.

So you have to manually re-sync by pressing a button on the main unit

called "Resync", which (I guess) makes the main unit listen continuously

until it receives the signal.

A 5 day/2 day alarm would be great.

 "poor reception, poor projection" 2009-01-18
By Ron E. Drennan (Carmi Il)
I was disappointed, having my expectations set by reading their description of the product (and not reviews). The projection time does not rotate very well, does NOT cover the 180 degeress advertised. I have a difficult time capturing radio stations (much worse than my previous 10 year old clock radio)with the remote kept in my car (must stay dry). Time sync is good, mp3 play works well. Alarm is ony 7 day, and not so easy to turn/off, so I get the alarm 7 days a week. A 5 day a week alarm such as is in my phone would be very nice.

If it did what it says it does it would be nice, but their sales department seems to be out of sync with their engineering/production departments.

Victories:Time/date, updated daily/In-Out Temp(neat!)/clock alarm/Projects the time on ceiling.(My goal in purchase.)

Disappointments:That's good(time on ceiling)BECAUSE the color/temp. face display hasn't displayed after three weeks. The radio/speakers are weak in quality/reception. The snooze alarm is only a beep not the radio.

By J. Green (Long Island)
Projection, clock and radio with color clock changing temperatures all rolled into one. For some reason my daughter really likes it and that is all that counts. She is amused on how the clock changes color with the temperature and projects the time on the ceiling. It is also has atomic adjusted time and a pressure trend with a weather forcast. This is almost like a toy for a child, but adults may not like the flimsy design or the sound. Will have to see how this clock holds up over time.

 "A good digital clock" 2010-04-15
By TechWriter
I have three of these little clocks and I really like them. I like not having the display lit up at night, which another reviewing complained about. They do not always arrive with the perfect time, but the instructions are fairly easy to follow to correct that problem. They do automatically correct for Daylight Savings Time. They have been very reliable and the temperature readings have been accurate as far as I can tell.

We've had two of these products for the past three years. They perform well, do the job, and for 10 bucks, I think they are a good deal. I've read the other reviews, but our experience with the 40001 alarm has been good--I've carried this with me on travel, and never missed an appointment.

There are detailed instructions at the [...] website--with good batteries and the instructions these clocks do the job well.

This piece of junk was 5 mins slow when I first switched it on, and the thermometer was out by about 10°C. I thought new batteries might fix it, and all it did was reset it to 12:00 Jan 1 2008. With no way to tell it the right date and time it is effectively a pile of junk that isn't even a good paperweight.

 "Threw it out" 2010-02-13
By DC_traveler_gal (Washington DC)
Bought this alarm model at a local store because i was running out of time before leaving town. Construction is really cheap and installing battery as well closing/opening the case is quite a risky enterprise. Plastic case is worse then you would expect, and every time you tinker with it it feels ready to break.

The light feature was useless, as the light went of immediately after first use. The slide button for setting time and alarm is annoyingly small and hard to control even form my tiny hands.

By far the worst feature is a really really low alarm sound. I am a very light sleeper and it was just about the only sound i could NEVER hear. So i tossed this clock after the second day of my trip.

Would not recommend.

 "Functional Alarm Clock" 2009-11-19
By Reviewer
The 2 alarm clocks that I received have slightly different buttons and features. The thin plastic battery case does not seem sturdy, and it is difficult to pry open the case and remove the battery. However I am actually glad that the clock does not have a calender because the large numbers for time are easier to read; the alarm is not terribly loud which is good for light sleepers. But I would have preferred a button for a light source. Improving the battery case an adding a light button with the power of only 1 AA battery would be a nice improvement.

 "was pretty good" 2006-07-29
By New York Gal (New York, NY United States)
i've had this alarm clock for three years. the amazing thing is i have never ever had to change my battery. and i set my alarm every week day.

good: solid. doesn't eat batteries. durability - i've dropped it on the ground several times and after putting the battery back in, it has kept on ticking. runs on one battery.

bad: clunky buttons, it could be louder, if you don't hear it and it goes off it shuts itself off and you will sleep in.

i've been pleased. i won't buy it again, but it was good for what i paid and very durable. next time, i will go for something louder and a bit less flimsy. not that it is too flimsy, but it's time for an upgrade.

"This is the worst alarm clock I've ever used" 2006-01-05
By S. Duggan (Boston, MA)
If I had saved the receipt, I would have returned this alarm clock. It's never worked properly since the day I bought it. You have to slide a button to set the alarm, which should be easy, but you have to do a lot of fiddling to get the button to stay in place. And even then, you're not guaranteed it will stay set. The snooze button also seems to turn off the alarm for the rest of the morning. Maybe I got a lemon, but I'm on Amazon now looking for a new clock.

"Doesn't work at ALL and isn't as shown!" 2010-01-15
By M. Bruhns (Los Angeles, Ca)
First, the clock doesn't have the nice black face with lit up digits, it has a BIG blue screen blasting right in your face, with black digits. Second, mine didn't work at all, completely DOA! It shows all the digits, turns to garble then goes completely blank. Its then my responsibility to not only send the POS to the manufacturer, but I have to include a check for return postage! Cheap construction. Can't tell what the crescendo alarm is, as it doesn't work!

Customer Buzz
 "Mixed success" 2009-08-22
By William M. Murray (Central Indiana USA)
The features this clock provides are excellent.

I especially like the large time display and automatic dimming.

It's perfect for bedside, and being able to read the time without glasses, but not providing too much light in the dark room.

The remote temp display is nice also. I mounted the sensor module on the north side of an outbuilding several hundred feet from the house and it registers temp accurately.

Issues:

Never able to set itself to the radio frequency time signal, even after plugging it in outdoors for 24 hours in several different locations. I have several other devices that work fine doing this (location: central Indiana)

Clock falls 5 minutes behind at random intervals. Never had a digital device that did that before.

The remote temp sensor doesn't work at all if placed outside when the temp is below freezing. You need to locate the remote sensor module indoors and run the sensor wire and temp bulb to the outside.

 "I don't get the other reviews" 2008-03-11
By Tyler Durden (Gaithersburg, MD USA)
I bought this clock because I sorted on best avg customer review. I don't know why the high reviews - the shortcomings of the clock are in the reviews. Setting via the atomic clock did not work at all (one of the other reviews noted the same but said its ok because they set the clock 5 minutes ahead). As another reviewer noted - the clock drifted - yup. Another wrote the alarm was not loud. I think that summed up my experience; the clock does not set, its not accurate, and the alarm is not good. I bought it to be a self setting accurate alarm clock that would wake me up. I will add a new comment, the clock looks like it is straight out of the Jetsons, and its big, that might be attractive to you, but to me it was scary. I am glad Amazon has a great return policy.

 "Better than expected" 2008-02-03
By V. Decarlo (Morristown, NJ United States)
It has two temp readings. One within the radio and one wireless (which I keep in the garage - next to my extra beer stash). The indicators are LARGE and the night light is mellow enough not to keep you up at night. A minor flaw is once it gets the exact time (when 1st plugged in) it drifts a minute or two. Could probably be reset manually but I would have hoped the engineers would not have left out an auto-update-time feature. Best part is, the Alarm Time/Alarm On-Off settings are VERY intuative. Changing the wake-up time could not be easier. Love ya's, Vic

 "Great Clock" 2008-02-01
By bree (Illinois)
When first plugging in the clock, its suposed to auto-set to your time zone. Mine didnt do that. But I didn't mind because I set my clock 5 minutes fast anyway. The indoor and outdoor temperature readings are great. I also like how the outside sensor is a wire attached to a screen you can hang on the wall. So you can see the temperature whether you're looking at the clock, or at the unit hanging on the wall. I LOVE the auto-dimming feature. One reason I switched clocks is because my other one was too bright. The brightness is perfect.

One thing to be aware of is that the lower you are looking at the clock, the harder it is to see. My bed is pretty low and my nightstand is a tiny bit higher than my bed. Any lower and I dont know if I would be able to read the numbers while laying down. Just something to be aware of.

Overall, a great clock. Recommended buy. :)

"It keeps decent time, but..." 2009-03-08
By K. Sisco (Coolville, OH)
My clock does not look like the one pictured above. I looked for the model number on the SkyScan Web site, and could not find it - not even with a search of the site. Hmm...

The atomic function worked once for me when I first got it, but it doesn't seem want to update the time. That first time was not easy either. I had much trouble before it finally decided (on its own) to update. I have tried placing it in a west-facing window, but to no avail. I have tried taking the batteries out and starting from scratch, but still no updates since the first time I got it. Even pushing the "wave" button does not accomplish an update.

On the bright side, the clock seems to keep good time (maybe it updates occasionally, who could really know?). The projection function is what I wanted, and that is superb. The numbers projected are large and in focus (clock has a focus knob and one that changes the angle of the digits). I definitely can not complain about the projection.

I have never used the alarm, so I can't say as to how that works. I just wish the update function would readily work. And, yes, I know that we receive the atomic signal in southeastern Ohio, because my other atomic clock adjusts without issue.

"I really like this more than I expected" 2007-04-27
By D. Neal (California)
I have several SkyScans. Where I live, we lose power all-too-frequently. It works fine, has no problem getting the "sky signal" (we can't even use cell phones here) and I especially like the "ceiling time' (it projects the time onto the ceiling). The only thing I had to get used to is the alarm setting mechanism. The in-between setting does not set the alarm, you have to slide it all the way....and the alarm has an increasingly louder signal, so you can't be slow at turning it off (unless loud noises don't bother you in the AM.) Mine looks just like the picture. It always has the right time and I don't have to mess with it. What could be better?

The one I received does not look like the one in the photo. I did not realize it until I came back online and looked at my order. The one I received is larger and square but works the same--the projection is what I was looking for. Unfortunately, the atomic part does not work in southern California. I had to call customer service and get it figured out and manually set the time. Customer service was helpful and nice.
