This is a product that shouldn't be sold in this country. It was gifted from a friend but it does not work. I opened the case and found that the PC board is installed poorly. Specifically, the swinging arm is not moving without touching the case. I spent 15 minutes to look for a repair, but it seems no help.
If you're thinking to buy, good luck. It is poorly engineered and would not recommend for gift at all.

I have to agree with the previous post regarding finding this clock cheaper at the drug stores. I picked one up today (Monday, January 12, 2009), at my local CVS for $1.99. They are offering 90% off for Christmas clearance. If you really need to have one of these, check around your local shops to see if you can get one for the $2-$4 they are really worth. $15 or more IS WAY TOO EXPENSIVE!.

I just bought this clock from my local CVS for $10--don't pay twelve TIMES more here! In addition, "programmable" is a bit of a misnomer; I did figure out how to program the four messages without even looking at the manual, but even with the ambiguous instructions I didn't believe that you can't turn off the dozens of pre-programmed messages without disabling your own custom messages until I saw the other review posted here confirming my suspicions! Finally, the flicker of the wand effect is much worse than I remember seeing in other, similar products--maybe my memory is faulty, but if this thing were anywhere in my field of view it would give me seizures.
In short, it's a neat effect if you've never seen it before, but this thing is WAY overpriced and the "programmability" is a joke. Mine is going back to CVS tomorrow--thank goodness I didn't pay $120 plus shipping!

I have owned this clock for many years. I recently had the opportunity to purchase more. You can program many messages and turn off messages, from what I can tell. I don't mind the preprogramed messages, but I'm pretty sure you may be able to delete or turn them off.

I bought this clock for an advertising display, however, it includes several "built in" messages and four custom messages. It works as advertised, however, you CAN NOT turn off the built in messages and just display your custom messages.
Some of the messages are just downright silly, like "I love you" with a heart icon in it, "Come on!!!", "Are you OK?", "Hello!", "Enjoy (^^) Yourself!" and "Happy? Happy!" These messages are just silly and made the clock worthless for my advertisement. Your own custom messages cycle is peridically displayed through out the sequence, but the built in messages overwhelm it.
If you turn off the messages, you are left with a clock that displays the date and time only. (Not even an option for Custom Messages only or Built in Messages Only.)
Oh well... I now have it in clock mode sitting on my mantel, which makes a nice clock.
