"RCA = Really Crappy Audio" 2010-01-21

The unit I recieved was either damaged or very poorly engineered. On certain tracks the sound distorts horribly at moderate volume and on others the case resonates loudly on some notes. At this price I do not expect "good sound" or bass, but I do find spurious noises and heavy distortion unacceptable.

I replaced this with a audiovox CD1120 from a certain retailer with a logo that looks like a dart board. It's slightly cheaper than this unit and is better in every way. It still sounds like AM radio and I wouldn't classify the sound as pleasing, but anything is preferable to the RCA.

Clock/cd/radio won't even work. Plug it in and nothing. Gave as a Christmas present. BIG disappointment!

"Exactly what I was looking for..." 2009-12-28

All I wanted was an alarm clock that would allow me to listen to a CD as I fell asleep and still have a loud alarm wake me up in the morning. This RCA CD Clock Radio did the trick!

A few years back, my boyfriend started reading me to sleep, which was great when we were long distance, but when we moved in together, he was getting tired of me asking. The solution? An alarm clock radio/cd player that would read me to sleep :)!

We started shopping, but at first all we found were alarm clocks with iPod docs. I'm trying my best to stay away from the iCraze, so these were out of the question. The first CD Alarm Clock we bought seemed like a good one, but then we found there was only one "setting" option, so if I fell asleep to a quiet CD, the same volume was used to wake me up. Not effective!

This Radio's review:

The Wake Mode function is completely independent from the CD player functionality, so I can set the Wake Mode to Alarm, and then click Play on the CD player. The sound and volume is just fine for a good book-on-CD (recommend Neil Gaiman's Stardust), but playing Outkast's Speakerbox album proved that this is no Boom Box. Save that one for the car...

The CD buttons are all distinct, so it's easy to find Play and Forward. It's not fancy, but simple. The clock is easy to set (forward and back scan), and the snooze button is huge. The alarm is perfectly obnoxious to get me out of bed (but my bf is not a fan!). The radio dial is a little tough to get a precise station at first, and the volume dial is in an awkward place. It's not the prettiest or smallest device, but I am very happy with it!
