Title says it all. Off to buy a new battery, seems easier than hassling with returning it.

Alarm clocks typically do not excite. They are fusty little utilitarian gizmos clad is awful faux woodgrain and whose sole purpose is to disturb slumber.
I had endured for some years a brace of typical clock radios and finally got fed up and bought this Emerson, having read a number of reviews. I'm very glad I did. For starters, I picked this clock for the large digits. Finally I can see what time it is from bed without excessive squinting and/or glasses retrieval. There are two light levels (so the big digits don't have to form a beacon at night). The clock sets itself, which is a great thing, and has more alarm options that I certainly need.
Maybe more important: the beeping alarm starts quiet and subtle and slowly rises in volume. Instead of awful shrillness, one tends to leave one's partner still asleep or at least less grumpy. The radio part of this clock are pretty bad, but I don't need it for music. As an alarm clock, stylish, non-fusty, non-woodgrained, non-cheesy: a winner.

When I plugged the unit in, it showed completely the wrong time -- not just the difference in time zones but totally wrong hours and minutes. The problem was not due to a total memory loss (which can happen when the battery dies) because day, month and year were correct. I changed the time zone to mine (Pacific) and the time decreased by 3 hours but was still completely wrong. I unplugged the unit and then plugged it in again. Not only was the time still completely wrong but the time zone had reset to Eastern.
I called (during office hours) the two 1-800 numbers given in the guide, and in each case was treated to voice recordings that took me through menus before telling me there was no help available and cutting me off. I then emailed the address provided in the guide. My email was completely ignored.
I am returning the unit and will never buy an Emerson again.

Looks nice but has the worse sound quality. Sounds like there is no base. Thought this wouldn't be a problem since it is just for waking up in am but not a good way to wake up.

Wanted a large display, radio alarm that plugs in. Wally-World and other brick and mortars only seem to carry battery-powered alarm clocks these days. Stupid. This one had everything I wanted and for a price comparable to the cheaper quality crap sold at brick-n'-mortar stores. Shipping was prompt and the product is quality. Thanks.
