"Ok but not as advertised" 2010-04-07

First, this is not an atomic clock. Equity did a clever trick. They preset the time and date at the factory. They then put in a lithium button battery to keep the clock ticking. The button battery lasts around 3 yrs. So when you plug the clock in, naturally the time would pop up automatically and the ac current would take over the clock chores. Unplug the clock and the button battery takes over keeping time; but no display since that would drain the battery quckly. When the button battery goes, so will the instant start feature, until you replace the button battery and manually reset the time.

The clock does have an auto dim features that work fine. The blue display is dim for normally lit rooms, but ok for bedrooms. Blue should not be the color of choice since blue is the worse color for human perception of sharpness.

Generous 2 year warranty. Bottom of clock has a build date sticker that is a guage on how much life is left on the battery.

Manually setting the time is straight forward. Instructions are adequate. One of the clocks I purchased would not light up at all. The instructions does detail the reset procedure and boom the clock lit up, but you have to manually input the correct time.

Got it at close out so price was great. Would not pay retail for it.

 "Sweet little clock" 2010-01-28
By J. Marcy (Indiana)
I bought this clock because it was cheap, and the insta-set feature was intriguing. I plugged it in and it was instantly correct. I just had to slide the time zone switch over to my zone. Easy to use and the alarm is nice since I am usually ready to get up and no one else gets disturbed (it starts out pretty quiet and gets more annoying if you don't turn it off).

The only thing I have a problem with is it's WAY too bright. Those other reviews that say it was too dim must have had a bad clock because we can almost read by the light this thing puts out. The first night I was doing shadow puppets on the ceiling. Other than that I would recommend it.

 "Very disappointed" 2009-12-20
By Mark Alison (Boston MA)
The time is manually set at the factory and all you have to do is adjust for your time zone. When I did this, the clock was two minutes slow. No big deal I thought, tonight it will sync with the atomic clock like my two atomic watches always do. Next morning it was still two minutes slow. The following night I tested it by placing it in a window next to one of my atomic watches. In the morning it was still two minutes slow. The atomic watch grabbed the correct time as soon as it turned on to search at 12:00 A.M.

I returned the clock.

 "Not a fan" 2009-12-08
By L. P. Surprenant (Hudson, MA United States)
The light is actually blue - which is the color "experts" say NOT to use to fall asleep (texts, computers, etc). And it is bright enough to keep me awake. PLUS it is weird in how you change the settings. The hubby would rather use his cell phone alarm for those times needing changing than to bother changing it. Santa will be bringing a new clock.

"Works until just after the warranty expires" 2009-11-09
By R. Grimes (Sandy, Utah USA)
Not long after the warranty expired, the clock stopped keeping accurate time. I was able to set the time, per the instructions, but the time doesn't progress like it should. The hour and minute separator (the colon) blinks slower than once per second, and the minutes advance about one for every three minutes that my other clocks show.

This is basically pitiful performance. Most digital clocks that I've had keep on working forever - even if you have it 10 years or more. This one just doesn't cut it.
