I really like my Sunrise SAD Therapy Light Box w/ Dawn Simulator. It has been EXTREMELY helpful this winter. I think that the pros outweigh the cons.

Pros:

Bright LED energy efficient

Works as SAD light and alarm clock

Quiet, no clicking noises

Bright enough to read by

Different alarm times can be set for each day

Cons:

Price

Cannot aim light

Runs fast (about 1+ minute a month)

Complicated menu

Limited backlight levels for digital clock

"wakes me up but is now like waking to a strobe light" 2009-04-06

I bought this box a year ago and (after reading my way

through that horrible interface) was thrilled to find that it does

cure inability to wake up in the winter. However 2 of LEDs started

flickering about 2 months after I bought it and now it's like waking up

to a strobe light. No gradual dawn anymore, more like a way to wake up

with seizures.

Sunrise SAD Therapy Light Box w/ Dawn Simulator

I have asked, twice, for information on this product's UV research safety which documentation any light therapy box company will readily provide to those that request it. Without UV filter these lights may cause damage to some with macular degeneration and other eye problems. This company has not been responsive to my request in providing that research info to me. I like the idea of the dawn simulator on the product but beware if company doesn't provide that info.

"I love my light boxes, but not this one" 2009-01-18
By king_tinac (Reston, VA United States)
This is my third light box, and the main reason I ordered it was because I wanted to try a dawn simulator. The dawn simulator really hasn't helped me to get up, but that could just be me. I do like the fact that this light box is small and puts off a white light (I have a blue light, which I hate), but overall, I cannot recommend it.

The only reason I do not like this light is because the interface on the box is horrendously bad. There aren't a lot of options, and yet, I have to keep the manual closeby so I can lookup how to use it every time I want to do something. I couldn't even figure out how to turn the light off in the morning. I now only use it as a regular light box, but even that is a problem because I have to click, click, click through all the options to set the timer even though I set it to the same time every time I use it. Finally, to change one menu option, I have to go through every single option every time (i.e. it won't let you exit the menu early).

Just FYI, I am an engineer, so it's not that I am illogical or can't figure things out. This interface is just so horrible that it is frustrating and makes me wants to throw the thing out the window. The only reason I don't is because of how much money I spent on it.

Pass this one by... I think there are probably better light boxes on the market (my favorite is no longer produced or I would recommend it). I also would not recommend this as a dawn simulator - try one of the others on the market.

This is a great way to wake up. The artificial sunrise really helped me beat the winter blues.
